The Legacy System Audit

A full-stack analysis that maps your clearest path to modernization.

The Legacy System Audit is a thorough deep dive into your system. I analyze your codebase, infrastructure, and processes to identify what needs to change and in what order. You get a clear, prioritized roadmap - not a vague list of suggestions.

Is Your System a Fit?

If it runs your business, it's in scope: web applications, aging ERPs, line-of-business systems, databases nobody dares touch. Much of my recent work lives in the web stack, but architecture, database, and deployment problems look the same in every language, and engineering fundamentals travel.

Timeline

Most audits are completed within 5-7 business days, depending on system complexity.

A typical 7-day audit might look like:

1
Day 1: Kickoff call and access setup
2
Days 2-5: Analysis and documentation
3
Days 6-7: Report preparation and delivery
4
Follow-up: 60-minute walkthrough call

Actual timelines are scoped during the discovery call based on your system.

What the Audit Needs From You

  • Read-only access to your codebase and a copy (or replica) of your database. I never work directly against production
  • A 30-60 minute kickoff call, plus someone who can answer questions as they come up (2-3 hours of your team's time, roughly)
  • An NDA is standard practice. Happy to sign yours or provide mine

Not sure how to get any of this? That's normal, especially if the person who built your system is gone. Point me at whoever holds the passwords (your hosting company, your old agency, the IT person) and I'll track down the rest with you on the kickoff call.

Nothing about your system changes during an audit. It's analysis only, and your data is never used to train anyone's AI models.

Investment

Most audits run $4,000–$7,500, depending on system size and the number of technology stacks involved. Smaller single-stack systems can come in under that. You'll get an exact quote after the discovery call.

No surprises in either direction - you'll have a clear understanding of scope and cost before anything starts.
